About

Hello, I'm Steve, a product experience designer and team leader based in Toronto, Canada.

Profile

For over 17 years I've been dedicated to scaling products, crafting user experiences and designing interfaces for the digital space. I hold a degree in Human-Computer Interaction Design from the Simon Fraser University. From the very start my passion has always been design and approaching problems using design thinking. I will always advocate for the user, but also understand the realities and expectations of a business.

Through the years, I've had the pleasure of collaborating with teams of various sizes. From closely working with founders in start-ups, to larger corporate companies, I have delivered results in all settings. I have gathered experience in executing at every stage of the process - from initial strategy, through post-launch iterations. I lead by doing, collaborating and ensuring design drives measurable outcomes.

Hey! I'm Steve - An interaction designer & team leader based in Toronto, Canada.

For over 17 years I have been dedicated to driving product growth in the digital space. I lead by doing, collaborating and ensuring design drives measurable outcomes.

My experience spans the full spectrum of the digital product design cycle, from initial strategy, through post-launch iterations. I have experience in collaborating and delivering at every stage of the process.

These days I lead design at Enghouse Systems, delivering solutions for SaaS products in the CX Enterprise, Video Communication, Healthcare & Digital Collaboration sectors.

What I do
  1. I lead design teams to ship products and experiences by translating complex business goals into actionable, measurable plans.

  2. I establish work processes, adapting to the available skillset of a team and constraints of a business.

  3. I build, maintain and scale design systems.

  4. I help understand customer journeys, user pain-points and churn in order to help brands connect better with their audience.

Design Philosophy

Good design also isn't about aesthetics or visually striking user interfaces. It's about understanding a problem well enough, so as to create solutions that feel obvious in hindsight. I strive to design products which complement human cognition rather than trying to automate it away.

Additionally, I believe good product design requires an understanding of business realities. I learnt this early on in my career, that design decisions which ignore business constraints don’t yield successful products.
